Girls of Color THRIVE 1 Day Wellness and Mentoring Summit

Join Us for a Day of Wellness and Resiliency!

  • When: March 2, 2024 - Registration begins at 8:30 AM to 9:15 AM Programming begins at 9:30 AM to 4:30 PM

  • Where: Eckerd College in St. Petersburg, Florida.

  • Cost: Free to Black and brown women and teens (12-18) with registration form. Must pre-register.

The PowerUP Summit is a day-long event (9am - 4:30pm) hosted by MENTOR & Sol to Root Wellness and offered to identified community organizations and local women leaders at no cost. The summit is a dynamic and transformative gathering aimed at empowering BIPOC women and teenagers in their personal, professional, and holistic well-being and designed to provide BIPOC girls and women with the resources needed to support overall wellness and mentoring. By engaging participants with a variety of activities, teen girls and women will be able to increase their knowledge as it relates to overall wellness, build and learn practical techniques that can be easily implemented in their individual learning environments, with a strong focus on promoting self-empowerment and community building.

Thought-provoking panel discussions provide a platform for open dialogue on critical issues impacting BIPOC women and teens.

Small Discussions

Participants can engage in wellness activities such as yoga, meditation, and mindfulness practices to enhance their physical and mental health.

Youth Empowerment Workshops:

Networking Opportunities:

 Specifically tailored sessions to empower and support BIPOC teenagers, addressing issues they face in their personal and academic lives.

Community Building:

Resources and Tools:

Participants gain access to resources, tools, and information to help them thrive in their endeavors.

Attendees have the chance to connect with mentors, peers, and professionals, fostering valuable relationships and opportunities.

The summit promotes a sense of belonging and solidarity among BIPOC women and teens, encouraging mutual support and collaboration.

Various Opportunities

The goal of the summit is to instill methods and practices for overall wellness and mentoring and to enrich the participants’ lives by improving their ability to effectively problem solve, set goals, and increase their leadership skills. All participants will receive a “Wellness Tool Kit” to share with their community and will leave enthusiastic about making a difference in their community.

National Presenter

Dr. Y. “Falami” Devoe, Holistic Human Development Strategist /Self-Care Ritualist is a Womanist, and poet with interdisciplinary interests at the intersections of race, class, gender, identity, sexuality, ethnography, and pedagogy. Dr. Falami’s work documents Black women’s experiences of resilience, resistance, agency, and affirmation. She is passionate about sustainable communities of care, self, and collective practices of healing, liberation, and well-being.
